How Berlanti, Kreisberg And Guggenheim Can Solve A Problem Like Deathstroke And Constantine
After Manu Bennett's return to Arrow in the finale, fans have been clamoring for more Deathstroke / Slade Wilson. They're calling on Greg Berlanti, Andrew Kreisberg and Marc Guggenheim for a Deathstroke original series. And I would be on board for that… but there are two basic problems. Bennett is already committed to the Shannara Chronicles which is filming now and there are only so many hours in a week for CW shows. The network only airs 2 hours a day five days a week and DC is already taking up five hours with Supergirl, Flash, Legends of Tomorrow, Arrow and iZombie and then there's Black Lightning on the way. And fans don't want to lose Riverdale or Supernatural…
Also, for all the fans wanting more Deathstroke, there are fans wanting more John Constantine or Hawkgirl or Human Target or Vigilante or Deadshot or Huntress… etc. Add in fans who want to see characters like Nightwing, Blue Beetle, The Question, and the list goes on and on. The point being, not every character can have his or her own show.
On the other hand… I think they should do something completely unique. DC's The Brave And The Bold. Short three or four episode stories that feature some of the characters that don't lead on other series and new characters introduced to the Arrowverse. More intense stories focused on two heroes and a specific event or villain. Deathstroke could team with Animal Man, Martian Manhunter and Booster Gold, Constantine and Zatanna, etc. And the series could run as filler when other series take a brake or during the summer. They can be made when actors are available instead of on the standard schedule.
With this you can also explore different aspects of the DC Universe that only get touched upon in the regular series. Cosmic character, magic users and anti-heroes. And for Warner Bros / DC, it gives them a way to test out character to see the fan reaction before putting them into motion pictures.
I think the only thing that is holding back the CWverse / Arrowverse is the number of hours it airs. A Brave and the Bold type series would give the producers a flexibility that has never been seen in network television before. And it would allow fans to get more of their favorites regardless if they're already established like Deathstroke and Constantine or brand new to live-action adaptation.
