Dota 2 Prize Pool For The International Is Already Biggest In ESports History
Dota 2 has been a big part of my gaming life over the last three months or so. It has a way of sucking you in and keeping you coming back. I even invested into the Compendium, the in game incentive that then puts money into the prize pool for the yearly Dota 2 championship, The International.
That prize pool has now broken records too. With two months still to run, the total sits at $12 million, which beats the previous record of the biggest ESports prize pool set at last year's event.
The popularity of Dota 2 is staggering and with money like this, some of these players are getting paid like more conventional athletes. The future is a crazy place and as we've seen, ESports is only growing. The interesting part of all this is going to be finding the ceiling of this phenomenon. I think we have a while to go yet.
