Elysium To Be "Remastered" For IMAX, Will Hit Worldwide On August 9th

Elysium is very high on my to do list this year. Neill Blomkamp's sophomore effort is going to be one of the highlights of my movie going summer, and as of today, it looks like I have another, rather large viewing option.

In a press release, it was revealed that the film will be following in the footsteps of many others by getting remastered into the IMAX format for a worldwide August 9th release date. Greg Foster, CEO of IMAX Entertainment said:

Neill Blomkamp is the kind of innovative, creative storyteller that moviegoers seek out, and we are thrilled to bring this highly anticipated film to IMAX audiences worldwide.

I find IMAX to be a mixed bag of goods and bads. Although, It's been a little while since I made the trip down to my local multistorey screen, Elysium could make for an interesting conversion. That massive size mixed with some of Blomkamp's frantic imagery could be a successful combo. Or not. I'd like to at least find out.

My preference is generally for a rather large screen but one that keeps its aspect ratios as intended. I certainly hope someone pipes up and asks Blomkamp his thoughts on the IMAX remaster. I'd like to hear what he has to say.
