Fox Plays Musical Chairs With Its Movie Dates And Deadpool Gets A Seat
20th Century Fox has been busy shuffling their cards today. According to Deadline, first they moved the film adaptation of Assassin's Creed from it's original August 7, 2015 date to some point in 2016. The film has Michael Fassbender attached to star with Justin Kurzel directing.
Then they moved the Fantastic Four from it's original June 19, 2015 date to the now vacated August 7, 2015. Perhaps Guardians of the Galaxy showed them that opening a team superhero film in August could be successful. This is a less crowded weekend and will allow the film to get more large format screens.
Moving into the June 19, 2015 slot is Paper Towns, from a novel by John Green. His previous novel adapated for film opened around the same time this year and did pretty well. The Fault In Our Stars took in 124.8M Domestic.
With the big news out of all this shuffling coming with Marvel's X-Men spinoff Deadpool locking in a February 12, 2016 date. The positive reaction to the leaked test footage… I almost want to put leaked in quotes… may have spurred the company to get things moving on the project.
