Jason Blum Offers a (Slight) Update on The Purge Franchise
Jason Blum recently admitted that the recent Horror Nights event may have expedited his interest in the next installment of The Purge.
After the release of The Forever Purge, Blumhouse's Jason Blum had been vocal that he's still interested in keeping the franchise alive. Furthermore, James DeMonaco, the franchise creator, has also shown excitement about the prospect of more. Now, Blum is discussing how a recent Halloween-centric event may have helped progress the timeline.
Jason Blum Says 'Horror Nights' Attraction Sparked Purge 6 Interest
During the New York Comic-Con panel labeled Blumhouse's Blumfest 2023, the horror mastermind addressed his recent thoughts on The Purge franchise post-Hollywood Horror Nights reveal, telling attendees, "We love to scare people in any way possible. At Horror Nights in both Los Angeles and Florida, we had an amazing Exorcist maze… We also did a big Purge Experience, and so when I saw this – the Purge [franchise] has been asleep for a while – but when I saw this, I was kind of inspired to think, 'Maybe we've got to wake The Purge up again.' So, I think so, I definitely think so."
A few months ago, DeMonaco discussed a few essential details needing to be addressed in the next entry, admitting, "Purge 6 is my way of looking at the country now." Later, adding, "For me for [the next movie], I was extrapolating on the discord and taking it to its furthest, as far as you can take that idea of what's going on, I feel, in the country and the political landscape. It's a broken America. We're remapping. [The next film] is about the remapping of America based on ideology, sexuality, and religion so that the states are broken down. You have your Black state; you have your gay state; you have your white evangelical state. And it's really a broken country. That's what Purge 6 is. It is this kind of broken America down in this remapping, and then they picked one state that purges still, so that's where it takes place."
