Kirsten Dunst On Spider-Man 4, Reboots, And Pay Disparity

Spider-ManKirsten Dunst recently did a long for interview with director Sofia Coppola with Variety about their careers, feminism, and their upcoming remake of The Beguiled . The interview itself covers a lot of both of their careers but they did bring up Dunst part in the original Spider-Man movies. Those Spider-Man movies, combined with X-Men and Blade, are ground zero to the Marvel Cinematic Universe and DC Extended Universe that we have today.

"I wanted to be in that movie so badly," Dunst says. "I loved it, and I wish we could have made a fourth."

There were plenty of rumors at the time about a fourth Spider-Man movie including rumors that Dunst wanted out and that was why Bryce Dallas Howard was brought in as Gwen Stacy. From Dunst's comment perhaps her leaving was not the issue it was made out to be at the time. As for the new series Dunst doesn't have an opinion either way but hasn't seen the new ones.

"I don't care," she said. "Everyone likes our 'Spider-Man.' C'mon, am I right or what? Listen, I'd rather be in the first ones than the new ones."

The BeguiledDunst seems to appreciate the stability that the Spider-Man movies gave her because it meant she could take smaller roles and not worry about the paycheck. However, a large focus of this article is Hollywood sexism and when asked whether she noticed a pay disparity while working on the Raimi Spider-Man movies she confirmed what we all already knew.

"Because I was young, I thought, 'Oh wow, I'm getting paid a lot of money for the "Spider-Man" movies.' But definitely the men were getting paid more. So yes, I experienced that."

Dunst and Coppola have worked together several times in the past and The Beguiled was accepted into the Cannes Film Festival.

Summary: At a girls' school in Virginia during the Civil War, where the young women have been sheltered from the outside world, a wounded Union soldier is taken in. Soon, the house is taken over with sexual tension, rivalries, and an unexpected turn of events.

The Beguiled will be released on June 30, 2017.
