Matt Damon Returning For Bourne Rumors Rearing Up Again

jason-bourne

Rumors that Matt Damon would return to reprise his role as Jason Bourne have plagued him ever since he handed the franchise over to Jeremy Renner's Aaron Cross, but he's always maintained that the only instance in which he could see himself returning was with Bourne Supremacy and Bourne Ultimatum director Paul Greengrasss at the helm.

Well, Latino Review believe the actor may have finally changed his tune. Greengrass is not returning, but LR report say "a deeply embedded trusted source" tell them Damon is returning to play Jason Bourne, for director Justin Lin, in the fifth installment of the Bourne franchise.

This new incarnation of the rumor comes on the heels of yesterday's announcement that Bourne 5 had been pushed back a year, reportedly because Universal wanted their N.W.A. biopic Straight Outta Compton to get Bourne's original prime summer 2015 release slot. Not so, say LR, who surmise that was a classic bit of PR misdirection, and the real reason is the studio is now leaving itself time and room to get Damon situated back into his old Bourne duds.

Makes a certain amount of sense, especially the part where some of Damon's recent box office misses are part of the reason he's changed his mind. I wonder how Jeremy Renner is feeling about this news.
