NBC Pulls The Plug On Its Summer Drama 'The Night Shift'

After four seasons, NBC has pulled the plug on its summer medical drama The Night Shift. The series, set in the San Antonio Memorial Hospital, focuses on a group of doctors, most military vets, working the late shift in the ER.

Eoin Macken and Jill Flint led the cast that included Party of Five alum Scott Wolf as Dr. Scott Clemmens, a trauma surgeon that began as a guest role before becoming a series regular for Seasons 3 and 4. The series also starred Ken Leung until the end of Season 3 — he is now Karnak on Marvel's Inhumans.

Jennifer Salke, NBC Entertainment President, said in a statement:

"We want to thank our amazing creators and executive producers, Gabe Sachs and Jeff Judah, for their dedication and stellar work; a cast and crew that were second to none; and the city of Albuquerque, N.M., which graciously opened its arms to us. For four seasons, The Night Shift gave audiences a window to heroic doctors, nurses and all-star medical workers who never hesitated to give their blood, sweat and time to help those most in need."

Over the summer, The Night Shift averaged 3.85 million viewers and a 0.7 rating in their target demo. That's down 30% in viewers and 23% in demo over the season 3 average. The series ended on August 31st.

I never watched the show, but I absolutely love the insanely dramatic photo above. Why are they posing like that? And why is he riding his motorcycle in the hospital? Perhaps we'll never know.
