NYCC: Convention Exclusives Cherry Pop!
Ale Bodden writes for Bleeding Cool:
After 6 years of attending NYCC, today I decided to try something new- one of the main reasons why people come to conventions in the first place: buying exclusives!
Usually I spend most of my free time either roaming Artist Alley or looking at books by the publishers' section. This year I decided to try new things. Now, this is the first time I join a long, slow-as-hell line in order to buy some exclusive convention item.
As a big Wonder Woman and Star Sapphire fan, I deemed it necessary to get the Fugitive Toys Funko Pop! Star Sapphire Wonder Woman. I mean, I need it- right? Well, let me tell you… long and slow doesn't completely describe it. and yes, I know sometimes people line up over night; and yes, I've lined up for hours- though never for an exclusive item.
Since I don't know much about toys, mostly because I buy them for my own collection and commit sacrilege by opening them all, I really wasn't sure what to expect. Before you ask: yes, I know exclusives' prices are usually higher than normal, but wow: that was crazy! Despite spending my first almost two hours on the show floor lining up, I still got my beautiful metallic Star Sapphire Wonder Woman vinyl figure! And while it might sound like I'm complaining, it was actually so worth it!
However, I feel bad for those waiting in line for Toy Tokyo: that line hasn't moved since the convention floor opened; and if I was worried about the length of the line I was in, well… this one is actually worse. Good Luck, guys- enjoy your toys! As a general advise: make sure you line up for everything you want about an hour beforehand- I am surprised by the amount of long lines on a Thursday… those usually start on Fridays.
