October 17th Is Going To Be A Very Busy Weekend In The Theaters
Sony has moved it's World War II drama Fury up from November 14th to October 17th. The thought is the studio hopes to give the Brad Pitt, Shia LeBeouf and Logan Lerman film a longer playtime over awards season.
The move adds one more to the already crowded weekend that includes Universal's Dracula Untold with Luke Evans, Fox Searchlight's Birdman with Michael Keaton, Open Road Films' Nightcrawler with Jake Gyllenhaal, Relativity's The Best Of Me with Michelle Monaghan, IFC's Camp X-Ray with Kristen Stewart and FOX's animated Book Of Life with Channing Tatum and Zoe Saldana. All but Birdman and Camp X-Ray are considered to be opening in wide release. It's rare but not unheard of to open five movies in wide release the same weekend… all of which have a chance to take the top box office spot.
I think the weekend will come down to the familiarity of Dracula vs the family draw of Book of Life vs the star power of Brad Pitt.
