Report: Destiny's Expansions Outlined In Depth From October Photo

10625100_772226842843549_1472746093802035020_nBefore The Dark Below came out last month, there were a lot of people wondering what a Destiny expansion pack would look like. Most were hoping it would include new locations to explore and a decent amount of story content. Unfortunately, the first expansion turned out not to be quite as dense as many were hoping.

It looks like way before the release of the first expansion, if people knew where to look, they may have found an in depth road map of the game's next four expansions. Via Eurogamer, the image first showed up on Destiny Italia's Facebook group on October 1st, 2014. It  took a little while to get to the English speaking parts of the net, though as it only recently cropped up on Destiny's sub-reddit, hence the reason why it's only now making the rounds on news outlets.

There isn't a whole lot of context as to where the picture came from, so take this with a pinch of salt. It appears to be right so far though and my 'feeling' is that this is legitimate. It's worth noting, if this is real, that some of the dates might be out of whack as this is quite old now.

Here is a breakdown of the content:

Expansion 2: House of Wolves – March 10, 2015:

Story Missions: 3
Raids: 1
Assaults: 1
PvP Maps: 4
Locations: Cosmodrome, the Moon, Venus and the Reef.

The Reef currently doesn't have a playable area, so it will be interesting to see if there is one in this expansion.

Next up is Comet. Comet came up in Activision Destiny contracts back in 2012 and it seems like a big content addition for the game. This will have a greater deal of content compared to the other expansions, as well a new location called Hive Ship.

Comet: Plague of Darkness – September 2015:

Story Missions: 12
Raids: 1
Assaults: 4
PvP maps: 6

It also makes note there will be three sub-classes (you'd have to imagine one for each class) and two weapon types added. What those are, it doesn't specify.

After that big update, expansion 3 and 4 will land which appear comparable in size to the Dark Below and House of Wolves.

Expansion. 3: Vex…something:

Story Missions: 3
Raids: 1
Assaults: 2

There is nothing on Expansion 4 except that it is called Forge of Gods. That sounds important. Hopefully it can bring any story brought about by Comet and the other expansions into a complete whole for the series.

My guess is that that will be your lot for Destiny until the direct sequel. The Dark Below was priced at $19.99, so I'd have to imagine that is the price for the smaller expansions. As for Comet? I kind of dread to think. I do love Destiny in its own way, but when all is said and done, the full game could end up costing close to $200. That is a lot. Of course, hardcore players may well have already put in several hundreds of hours and will put in many more in future updates. That pricetag will all come down to your value of time and how much you want to pump into Destiny.

Again, this is coming from a picture with little context. We will find out more in time, no doubt.
