Report: Disney XD Seeking Boy Or Girl For Lead In Herbie The Love Bug Reboot
Disney XD is casting for the human lead in a reboot TV series starring Herbie the Love Bug, and they're being non-gender-specific about it!
According to a report from TVLine, Disney XD is looking for either a boy or a girl to play Lili or Landon Reed in the show, with the main character's name to be chosen after they figure which gender they want to cast. The premise of the show is listed as:
Lili/Landon is "part scientist, part entrepreneur, part daredevil" and realizes, when her/his parents go missing, that they've secretly been working on a government project: a talking car named Herbie. Herbie is key to helping the kid reunite with her/his parents, but a gang of criminals also wants to get its paws on the state-of-the-art vehicle.
The titular sentient 1960s Volkswagon Beetle first appeared in the 1968 Disney film The Love Bug and has been a hit with audiences ever since, despite its absolutely terrifying premise. We mean, sure, humanity lucked out and the first sentient car turned out to be a friendly Love Bug. But can you imagine if Herbie ever decided it had no real need for drivers and turned his powers to evil?
Herbie last appeared in 2005's Herbie: Fully Loaded, a movie starring Lindsay Lohan, so there's nowhere to go but up for the franchise.
