Sam Waterston To Return To Law & Order Franchise
Let's face it, Law & Order was once a freaking juggernaut with the main series, Law & Order: SVU, Law & Order: Criminal Intent, Law & Order: Los Angeles, Law & Order: UK and Law & Order: Trial By Jury plus the upcoming Law & Order: True Crime. And one of the most recognizable faces from the franchise… besides Jerry Orbach… is Sam Waterston who played prosecutor Jack McCoy for 16 seasons. Well… Jack is back.
Word from Deadline is that Waterston is going to reprise his role as McCoy in a guest appearance on Law & Order SVU later this season. No other details have been revealed. Waterston joined the franchise in 1994 and stayed on through the series end in 2010. Waterston currently stars as Sol Bergstein on Netflix's hit comedy Grace and Frankie. His other recent credits include The Newsroom and feature Miss Sloane.
This seems to be a big legacy year for the series as Philip Winchester is moving is character of Peter Stone from the cancelled Chicago Justice series to Law & Order: SVU (both franchises form creator Dick Wolf). Peter is the son of former New Your assistant D.A. Ben Stone (Michael Moriarty) who was part of the original series from its debut in 1990 to 1994 when he was replaced by Waterston's Jack McCoy.
Along with Winchester, Brooke Shields joins the SVU returning cast that includes: Mariska Hargitay, Ice T, Kelli Giddish, Peter Scanavino and Raul Esparza.
The 19th season of Law & Order: SVU premieres Wednesday, September 27th at 9 PM on NBC.
And lets be honest here… the best episodes of Law & Order had Sam Waterston and Jerry Orbach.
