Sonya Balmores Talks Acting While Fighting In Marvel's Inhumans

I grew up reading Marvel Comics, and with it being a big, cohesive universe, readers are bound to know most of the character. I knew the royal family of the Inhumans, as well. The character of Auran is somewhat new to me and caught my attention in the trailers. Sonya Balmores was at the red carpet premiere of Marvel's Inhumans and shared her experience of being on the show.

The first question regarded the cast as a big family. Balmores agreed, saying that it's hard not to get close when you spend three months with a group of people on an island in Hawaii. (That doesn't sound horrible at all.) She also talked about the casting process and how she got fake lines to read and a fake character description — all in the name of secrecy. That makes me wonder just how effective these casting sessions are, if the actors don't really know who they're trying to play. Sounds more like an improv class in a way.

Balmores also talked about the fighting and choreography. She doesn't have any martial arts training, but she worked with the stunt team and trained up enough to do the scenes, and then had to remember to act at the same time. She says it was scary, yet she needed to portray a character of strength and confidence. Learning and performing stunt choreography while remembering and delivering your lines in a believable and in-character manner — I'm sure that's easy, right?

Marvel's Inhumans is in IMAX theaters now and will debut on ABC on September 29th.
