Things are in motion for The Devil Wears Prada 2. We learned that a sequel was in the works in July with the original screenwriter Aline Brosh McKenna set to return, but nothing else was confirmed at the time. Then, just last month on May 22nd, Disney and 20th Century Studios officially dated the film for May 1, 2026. Early summer is prime time, so they must think they have a winner on their hands. That's also less than a year away, so no one should be surprised that we got a video today officially announcing that the film has entered production.

Deadline also has some more details about the film, including the official announcement that Meryl Streep, Anne Hathaway, Emily Blunt, and Stanley Tucci are back to reprise their roles from the first film. We also have a new cast addition; Kenneth Branagh has been cast to play Miranda's husband, and if that isn't a movie power couple, I don't know what is. The story details we have are the same ones we got last month, "reportedly about Priestly facing the headwind decline of the print industry." Anyone who has spent any time in journalism in the last couple of years knows that this one will probably hit pretty close to home. The Devil Wears Prada 2 is also entering production at a time when Anna Wintour is stepping down from Vogue in the real world, so if they wanted to make any more connections to real-life figures, there is still time to make a few edits here and there.

McKenna's involvement was already confirmed, but we got it again, and the original director, David Frankel, and producer Wendy Finerman are also working on the project. The first film was a hit at the time, and it generated some of the best memes on the internet and became an award nominee. If we even get a couple of memes to the level of the Chanel Boots and "Florals? For Spring? Groundbreaking," this was all worth it.
