The Nintendo NX Will Strive To Change Your Video Game Life

Nintendo, at least in their last few consoles, have been about trying new ideas. While PlayStation and Xbox often are building on performance and previous ideas, the Wii, DS, 3DS and Wii U have all had their own kind of 'gimmick'.

That likely won't change with the Nintendo NX. In an interview with Japanese outlet Nikkei, (and translated by Kotaku) Nintendo CEO Satoru Iwata said of the in-development console:

If you only expand upon existing hardware, it's dull.

In some shape or form, we're always thinking about how we want to surprise players as well as our desire to change each person's video gaming life.

This does beg the question, what could that 'surprise' possibly be?

My feeling is that it could be the next logical step for the Wii U, where the console has a second screen that is portable and detachable from the base. Portability is a huge part of the Japanese market and I could see Nintendo trying to boost home consoles in that area by integrating the NX with handheld capabilities.

That is all based on guess work though. in theory it could be anything. A VR machine, on always online entertainment hub, a toaster. All guesses are valid at this point.
