The Six Important Moments From Arrow – Suicidal Tendencies
Now remember, this article probably contains SPOILERS if you didn't watch Arrow yet this week.
A whole lot happened in the latest Arrow episode, Suicidal Tendencies. A wedding, an overseas mission, a battle between two heroes, secrets revealed and a cliffhanger ending. Here are the top moments from the episode:
1) This whole season has been about identity and finding the balance between being a hero and having a life. Though most of the time we see the struggle with Oliver Queen and now some with Ray Palmer... here we get it with John Diggle and Lyla Michaels as their wedding leads right into a Suicide Squad mission. It was a moment of happiness and normalcy before it all went to hell. A microcosm of the season that started with Oliver trying to have a life with Felicity Smoak to only have it blow up literally… we have that again here as Floyd Lawton is waiting in their limo for them.
2) The reception is interrupted when news that the Arrow has gone on a killing spree again leads to a press conference with Captain Lance, Laurel Lance, the Mayor and Palmer. Laurel tries to downplay the Arrow's involvement but Palmer promises to help bring the Arrow in for a trail. This leads to Oliver going out after the impostors only to find three of them, Maseo and a bunch more bodies. This is what happens when you say no to Ra's al Ghul.
3) While Oliver is left alone by the impostors and Maseo, Ray arrives in his Atom suit and scans the Arrow using facial recognition to discover Oliver's secret identity. This starts a chain of events that includes him getting into a disagreement with Felicity, trying to reveal the truth to Laurel who shuts him down and eventually him deciding to take on the Arrow himself. Since the news broadcast about the killings happened at the reception, does that mean the killings happened during the wedding? If so, didn't Ray see Oliver at the wedding? Just asking.
4) The Suicide Squad mission is important for two reasons. When it turns out to be a set up and it doesn't look like they're getting out alive… I makes Diggle and Lyla realizes that they can't both be in the line of fire when they have a child. But it's Deadshot / Lawton who promises that they are going home to their daughter. This is his moment to shine and he gets the flashbacks as we see what turned him into a gun for hire. This also leads to Lawton's apparent death. Now this could be a story beat and we'll see him later or it could be the end of the Suicide Squad in the Arrowverse because of the upcoming film. Lawton's death and then the cover-up of how a US Senator was putting hostages in the way to make a run at the White House makes Lyla leave ARGUS just as Diggle was ready to leave Team Arrow.
5) What everyone was waiting for was the fight between Arrow and Atom and though short, the battle was interesting. We got to see the potential of Ray's creation along with its weakness. But the fight gave Oliver the opportunity to prove to Ray that he's not a killed. And put in a good word for Felicity. The funny thing about this scene is it starts with Roy Harper / Arsenal getting shot by Ray and blown back into a fence. The other two fight, then talk, then start to walk away and cut to black… but does anyone go check on Roy? And when is he going to be able to get a hit in on someone… anyone…
6) The episode ends with Captain Lance, Laurel, Ray and Felicity in the Mayor's office as Ray explains that he no longer believes the Arrow is behind the killings. This may have helped had Maseo, dressed as the Arrow, not shot the mayor. And from previews for next week we know that things are going to get worse from there as in more will be injured and Lance will have plenty of reason to go hunting the Arrow.
After the episode there was a brief message on the screen telling folks to go to CWTV.com for a special message… that message is here below along with previews for next week's episode Public Enemies.
