'Game Of Thrones' Writer Vanessa Taylor To Rewrite Disney's 'Aladdin' Remake
We finally got some news on the Aladdin remake that Disney is working on at D23 last weekend as they confirmed Mena Massoud (Jack Ryan) and Naomi Scott (Power Rangers) as Aladdin and Jasmine, and Will Smith as the Genie. Now that director Guy Ritchie has his leads it's time to start working on getting the script up to the level. According to The Tracking Board Disney had brought up Vanessa Taylor, nest known for her work on Game of Thrones, to work on rewriting the script.
A script revamping this early in the production isn't uncommon and Taylor will be working off of a script by John August worked on with Ritchie as they were working on the primary casting process. The production is rumored to start next month in London as they lock down the casting for villains Jafar and Iago.
The Tracking Board notes that Taylor is mostly known for her work on television but she does have a few movie under her belt.
Taylor started out in television, writing for such shows as Alias, Everwood and Jack & Bobby before working on HBO's Tell Me You Love Me, and later, Game of Thrones. Her first produced feature, Hope Springs, was released in 2012 starring Oscar winners Meryl Streep and Tommy Lee Jones, and she has since gone on to write the Divergent movie and Guillermo del Toro's upcoming film The Shape of Water.
There is no release date for Aladdin.
