Breakfast With Star Wars Fans In A Galaxy Far, Far Away
Jeremy Konrad writes for Bleeding Cool:
Friday was Star Wars day at SDCC, and in what has become an annual tradition, Star Wars collecting podcast Star Wars Action News held its 4th annual Fan Breakfast at the Edgewater Grill. This year the breakfast was cosponsored by Rancho Obi-Wan, which for those of you who don't know is the worlds largest private collection of Star Wars memorabilia in the world, and now recognized as such in the Guinness Book Of World Records. It is a tourable museum now, run as a non-profit organization. The owner of the collection Steve Sansweet was on hand, along with 200 other Star Wars fanatics that were lucky enough to get a seat at the breakfast.
Star Wars Action News is one of the longest running collectibles podcasts around, hosted and produced by Arnie Carvalho and his wife Marjorie. Posted every two weeks or so, they review and discuss all manner of Star Wars merchandise, with an emphasis on action figures and statues. I personally have found it to be an invaluable resource in my collecting, and was pretty excited I got to attend this event.
And oh what an event it was. Many companies that produce Star Wars products donate prizes to a raffle held during the breakfast, and that is on top of the giftbag supplied to us when we walked in the door containing a special edition patch, sticker, commemorative badge, and a raffle ticket. It was literally impossible to go home empty handed.
Carvalho played MC to festivities, and beamed with pride as he discussed all of the efforts to make the breakfast a success, followed by Sansweet giving a short speech about events coming up at Rancho Obi-Wan, and giving away a membership kit to the Ranch as well.
And the food! A full buffet was offered, and it was spectacular, maybe the best meal I had in San Diego.
Everyone was in high spirits, and the positive energy from the event carried me through the rest of the day at SDCC.Hopefully this can become an annual tradition for me, as I enjoyed talking with other fans celebrating the Saga we all love and cherish.
