[Review] Solo New York's Unbound Backpack Fits All Your Gaming Peripherals

Solo New York's Unbound backpack is designed to make air travel easier. While I can't say that the "TSA friendly" design of the bag actually works at all TSA checkpoints, the backpack is still damn worth the $86.99 USD price.

Not only does the bag expand to nearly massive proportions (its max dimensions are 19" x 13" x 9.25"), it's also comfortable and easy to slim down if you don't need all the extra space. You can just use the pull tabs on the sides of the backpack to cinch it in and slim things down.

The laptop compartment is 15.6" so it will fit your average gaming laptop, which I greatly appreciate. It's often hard to find bags that are sized appropriately for my 15" MSI Stealth, and the Unbound does the trick nicely. It's got a tablet compartment on the other side, and the whole thing zips open so that you could avoid having to take your laptop and tablet out of your bag for an airport security check. Except that your average TSA agent will still make you remove them, because of course they do. Still, having a separate slots for each in the back zip compartment still makes security checks faster, even without the layflat zip.

The front pocket of the Unbound backpack has an organizer section so you can keep track of smaller, fiddly items while the main pocket has two mesh compartments for slightly larger items. So you've got ways already built into the bag to keep the pockets from becoming a free-for-all mess.

The bag also has padded shoulder straps and back, which can also fit over a suitcase handle. So it reigns supreme in comfort, even when you load it to the brim with technology like I do. I've absolutely fit my laptop, tablet, external harddrive, Nintendo Switch, Aver Media capture card, PS4 controller, and all associated cables in the bag with room for extras, like a paper-back book, my wallet, keys, and more business cards than anyone would ever need.

My only complaint with this bag is that the front pocket is so tiny I can barely fit a pair of headphones, pack of gum, and a phone charger in it. I tend to prefer putting my wallet and keys in front pockets, despite the inherent safety concerns, because it puts them in easy reach. I'm unable to do that with the Unbound bag, but that's a problem I can easily live with.
