AEW News: New Being the Elite, Dark Match Replacement, Open Challenge
Here's a couple of quick AEW news bytes for your Monday afternoon, including a new Being the Elite, a new match for Dark, and an update on the TNT Championship open challenge. First up, a new episode of Being the Elite has dropped on YouTube, titled Gig. The show sees the cast members reunited now that AEW Dynamite is filming live in Jacksonville again. You can watch the video below.
AEW has announced a new match to air on AEW Dark tomorrow, replacing the initially announced match between Shawn Spears and Clutch Adams. Adams was removed from the show after 2013 tweets surfaced, showing the wrestler making racist and homophobic remarks. Christi Jaynes will take on KiLynn King instead, joining previously announced matchups of Billy Gunn vs. John Skyler, Brandon Cutler and Peter Avalon vs. QT Marshall and Dustin Rhodes, The Butcher and The Blade vs. Jon Cruz and Joe Alonzo, and Santana and Ortiz vs. Big Game Leroy and EJ Lewis. AEW Dark airs on Tuesday nights on YouTube.
On Twitter over the weekend, AEW Vice President and TNT Champion Cody Rhodes confirmed that his weekly Open Challenge for the TNT Championship would be open to anyone, including wrestlers not contracted to AEW. Cody won the Championship in a tournament at AEW Double or Nothing, defeating Lance Archer. The next week on Dynamite, a battle royale determined that Jungle Boy will be the first competitor for the title, with that match taking place on this week's show. After that, the open challenge can begin, with Cody claiming he'll defend the title every week. Already, Matt Cardona, the wrestler formerly known as Zack Ryder in WWE, has expressed interest in taking part in the challenge.
