Jessica Jones Season 2 Episode Titles and What They Might Mean

Earlier today Netflix released a video with 13 covers drawn by female artists for the second season of Marvel's Jessica Jones. Each cover is related to one of the 13 episodes of the new season, giving all 13 episode titles in the video. The covers go along with the fact that all of the episodes are written and directed by women, and the season kicks off on International Women's Day, March 8th.

If you didn't catch all of the titles, here is the list. Let's see what we can discern from the titles, if anything.

The titles are:

  1. aka Start at the Beginning
  2. aka Freak Accident
  3. aka Sole Survivor
  4. aka God Help the Hobo
  5. aka The Octopus
  6. aka Facetime
  7. aka I Want Your Cray Cray
  8. aka Ain't We Got Fun
  9. aka Shark in the Bathtub, Monster in the Bed
  10. aka Pork Chop
  11. aka Three Lives and Counting
  12. aka Pray For My Patsy
  13. aka Playland

These are pretty cryptic, but the first three give us a hint that we'll be diving hard into Jessica's backstory and how she got her abilities. We know that Janet McTeer is going to play a key role in the mystery of Jessica's abilities and will first appear in episode three, 'aka Sole Survivor'.  This means it's likely that episode one will re-introduce us to Jessica (Krysten Ritter), Trish (Rachel Taylor), Jeri (Carrie-Anne Moss), and Malcolm (Eka Darville), since other than in Marvel's Defenders we haven't seen this group since 2015. It will also give us a thread of some kind that will lead Jessica to look into her past and that might be the focus of episode two, while episode three will be the fallout from her family's death and how she ends up at whatever group that did things to her — and that's when we'll meet McTeer.

The fifth episode jumps out because the title, 'aka The Octopus'. As much as I'd love to see Doctor Otto Octavius pop up here, I'm fairly sure that won't happen. He's still part of Sony, and Disney hasn't bought them… yet. But the one that jumps out at me the most is 'aka Pray For My Patsy'. The character of Trish Walker is in the comics, but is known as Patsy Walker as well as her costumed alter ego Hellcat. It's absolute speculation, but using the name Patsy here might symbolize that the character is going to be moving closer to her comic book roots somehow.

Jessica Jones season 2 will be available to stream on Netflix starting this Friday, March 8th.
