Post NXT Takeover Notes on Flair, Gargano, Adam Cole's Contract
Following last night's NXT Takeover: In Your House, some new reports have emerged about the future of a potential injury for Johnny Gargano, and Adam Cole's contract status. Last week, there was a rumor that Cole's contract would end in August and that he hasn't yet signed a new deal, leading to shameless speculation that he could be headed to AEW. However, after Cole retained his title last night, that seems less likely. PWInsider's Mike Johnson reports that Cole's contract is actually not up for another eighteen months, bay bay, so all that speculation was for nothing.
After NXT Takeover last night, Triple H talked to the media and revealed that Johnny Gargano was having issues with his back and hips, but that it isn't serious. Gargano took on Keith Lee in a really stiff match that may have been the match of the night last night in terms of in-ring performance. No one else had any injury issues after the show, according to Triple H.
On that same call, Triple H also addressed Charlotte Flair's future in the brand after she lost the NXT championship to Io Shirai. Triple H referred to Charlotte as a Raw superstar and hinted that she could be done with NXT now or in the near future. However, he did say that the finish of the match, which saw Shirai pin Rhea Ripley while Flair had Ripley in the Figure Eight was part of "long term storytelling."
Triple H also did his best to deny that Velveteen Dream's loss to Cole meant Dream would be leaving for the main roster, though he did allow for the possibility it could happen. He thought the nostalgia factor at NXT Takeover: In Your House worked well, and that event could return in the future (yes, please!).
