Olympian Mikaela Shiffrin Is Captain Marvel In Winter Olympics Promo

The superhero influence is everywhere.  From your favorite Nabisco snacks to Hanes underwear, you can't shake a cape without touching something comic books have infiltrated. This influence now includes the most prestigious sporting events in the known universe, The Olympic Games.

NBC, the official broadcast carrier of the Olympic Games, tweeted this photo of Olympian Mikaela Shiffrin during a promotional shoot for the 2018 PyeongChang Winter Games:

22 year old Shiffrin is sporting the most FABULOUS Jamie McKelvie Captain Marvel inspired speed suit while holding her skis. Mikaela competes for Team USA in slalom and giant slalom ski events.

Turns out that Team USA and uniform company Spyder partnered with Marvel for these uniforms, and they were officially debuted in February, previously covered by Bleeding Cool here.

Pretty great that the most respected sporting team is using superhero iconography, and specifically, the uniform of a female character. Hopefully this bodes well for the future of the upcoming Marvel film Captain America starring Oscar winning actress Brie Larson as the title character.

The 23rd Annual Olympic Winter Games will take place in Pyongyang South Korea beginning on February 9th 2018 and continuing until the 25th.
