WWE Smackdown Dominates the CW Network in Friday Ratings

WWE has scored another ratings victory in the Friday Night Wars. This week's WWE Smackdown defeated both Penn and Teller: Fool Us and not one but two episodes of Whose Line Is It Anyway on the CW Network to score a decisive fourth-place victory for Fox in network television ratings for the night. Smackdown had a .3 rating in the adults 18-34 demo, with an average of two million viewers and a .6 in adults 18-49.

WWE is in the Top Five for Network Television

Clearly, the verdict is in: Triple H equals ratings. Penn and Teller have got nothing on HBK and Triple H, whose 25-year career anniversary was the focus of this most recent edition of WWE Smackdown. Penn and Teller and both episodes of Whose Line is it Anyway both scored a .1 in the 18-34 ratings, one third of what Smackdown managed to garner. They also had about a million fewer viewers. Take that, CW!

The ratings are the lowest yet for Smackdown on Fox, once again setting a record, even if that record is a negative one. As Vince McMahon pointed out on WWE's most recent shareholder conference call, new talent are to blame for WWE's falling ratings but they're going to come back in a big way after the pandemic is over. Smackdown also suffered due to going up against the NFL draft, which won the night in demo ratings for ABC. CBS's programming won in viewership thanks to the network's aging fanbase, with Blue Bloods taking the top spot with over eight million viewers.

The Bottom Line 'Cause Chad Said So

I also have to give some credit for the ratings win over CW to my boy, Baron Corbin. As my favorite wrestler, Corbin is really holding things down for WWE during these dark and troubled times. Congratulations to King Corbin and WWE on their victory, and here's hoping they can build on it to begin beating some of the other networks as well.
