The 'Hitman' Rights Are Staying With IO Even After Split From Square Enix

When you have a divorce, someone eventually gets custody of the kids. And in a rare circumstance, the lesser of two companies may be walking away with an awesome franchise. In a report making the rounds from German gaming site Gamestar, IO Interactive will be retaining the right to the Hitman series after they are fully split from Square Enix.

According to the site, Season Two of the stealth assassin game is halfway complete, and that they're aiming to release it just before 2018, or perhaps next year altogether. Gamestar is pretty reliable when it comes to these kinds of rumors and info, so unless a last minute change suddenly happens between the two parties, it seems pretty safe to say that at least Square were decent people and didn't strip the company of everything it had of value before walking away. We'll see how it all pans out in the coming months.
