Cammy's Covers – Hawkeye To Dial H
Cameron Hatheway writes for Bleeding Cool;
Hawkeye #10 by Francesco Francavilla
Orange you glad Francavilla illustrated this cover? Simple, yet effective. One might say this cover is a total (*puts on shades*) bullseye.
Mister X: Eviction #1 by Dean Motter
I'm always a fan of unique architecture, and just looking at this cover I have the feeling that Motter is trying to convey something to the audience. A hidden message or title of some sort? The world may never know. All joking aside, I really like the little details in the structuring of the title; the smokestacks, the high-rises, and even the billboard up top with the skull on display. And gazing out at all of it is a tiny red man, eager to get to work.
My heart skipped a beat for a second, because I momentarily saw Scalped as the title because of the similar font used. Alas, it's not Scalped, but it is pretty bitchin' nonetheless with the sun setting over the city. Doesn't this amateur photographer know you're supposed to take a picture with the sun behind you?!
Thanos Rising #2 by Simone Bianchi
Man this is pretty epic. With all the Avengers 2 talk in the media today, this is the kind of cover you introduce to fans of the movies so they have a better idea who to expect as the big baddie in the cinematic sequel. Bianchi does a fantastic job illustrating Thanos in all his madness and glory, for I felt chills go down my spine when looking into his eyes for too long. Great use of shadowing and color, and definitely one of the best covers on the stands this week.
This is my favorite cover of the week, hands down. Can someone check Brian Bolland's meds? Just when you thought Dial H couldn't get any more ridiculous, they go and introduce Open-Window Man. The serious pose just makes it that much sillier, and that big smile is deliciously cheesy. The colorful balloons behind him make for a nice contrast, and I enjoy that fact that like snowflakes, no two balloon faces are alike. I can't wait for DC to bring this noble hero to the big screen.
