Oni Press, Sarah Graley Make Kim Reaper Valentines for Cyndi Lauper's True Colors Fund
When you tell your valentine you love them this February 14th, what better way to say it than with Kim Reaper valentines drawn by Sarah Graley? Okay, cheapskate, you could also buy the Kim Reaper: Grim Beginnings graphic novel that's coming out that day, too, collecting Kim Reaper #1-4 plus bonus content. If that sounds like the perfect package to you, Oni Press is willing to further sweeten the pot. All proceeds from the sheets of four valentines will go to True Colors, a charity combatting LGBTQ homelessness co-founded by Cyndi Lauper.
"As a teenager, I read every single queer book in my small-town public library searching for characters that I could relate to," said Oni editor Ari Yarwood in the press release. "As an editor, I want to publish books that provide that sense of belonging and recognition that I spent hours combing bookshelves for. Kim Reaper is one of those books, and I like to think that it would have been one of my favorites as a teen. I'm delighted that we can partner with Sarah Graley to give back to the LGBT community, particularly LGBT youth in need, with this donation drive."
"Working on Kim Reaper has been my teen-self's dream job," said Sarah Graley. "Working on comics is one thing, but to actually get to write comics starring queer characters—something that was missing from the cartoons I grew up on—is really wonderful. This charity drive is a fantastic idea and I am so delighted to have been approached by Ari Yarwood and Oni Press to contribute to this great cause."
