Meeting The New Owners Of Diamond UK At MCM London Comic Con
Meeting the new owners of Diamond UK at MCM London Comic Con... but no, they are not changing the name
Diamond UK held a panel at MCM London Comic Con, with assembled comic book retailers before heading to the pub. And introducing themselves as the five owners of Diamond UK, entirely separate from Diamond Comic Distributors, and all longstanding Diamond employees… who now own the place. And they are, from legft to right:
- Keith Murrell, Accounts Manager
- Mike Holman, General Manager
- Lee Thompson, Deputy General Manager
- Ben Cornish, Purchasing Manager
- Alan Warburton, Warehouse Manager

Diamond UK was bought from the Chapter 11 bankruptcy debtors of Diamond Comic Distributors Inc for the sum of two million dollars, and the deal was financed by Barclays Bank and the five new owners. There are no other investors or investment sources. And no, they are not changing their name; they have built up Diamond UK to what it is now, and famously, it was one of the parts of Diamond that continued to make money while the rest went bankrupt. Some publishers have distanced themselves from anything related to Diamond, making no distinction between the two. However, Diamond UK has now partnered with Mad Cave Studios again, is in talks with Zenescope, and is trying to repair those fences. General Manager Mike Holman led the event at MCM today and spoke at length about the challenges they are facing, the systems they inherited that are not fit for purpose, and the changes they will have to make, albeit slowly. In addition to not being able to utilise the resources that Diamond once had, he also notes that no one has them anymore. However, there was a lot of optimism about what they believed they could achieve, and a good feeling in the room for comic book retailers who wanted to join them on this journey. Bleeding Cool recorded the presentation in a series of videos, which can be viewed below.
