Andrew Sumner, Chief Operating Officer of Titan Comics, bounced up at the MCM London Comic Con Diamond Retailer Day last weekend with plenty to talk about to the assembled comic book store owners and workers.
He talked through the new Titan Manga list, including El by the father of manga Osama Tzuka of Astro Boy for October, a pastoral manga series Somalian Forest Spirit adapted into an anime series recently and in November, the "batshit crazy" Elegant Courtly Life Of The Tea Witch.
Conan The Barbarian is now the bestselling Titan title ever, beating Gun Honey, with Doug Braithwaite joining, with more Robert E Howard lore to come. And they will be introducing new Conan Omnibus editions, beyond what has previously happened, with Volume Nine and more to come.
The tagline for The Huge Detective is "Chinatown meets The BFG", and Andrew Sumner talked about the power of putting Jimmy Hendrix on the cover of anything for their new graphic novel created with the Hendrick estate.
On Anfield Road, "Chris Shepherd is a writer, artist, filmmaker who has been heavily involved with a lot of TV and movie projects in the UK the last ten years, worked with Jesse Armstrong". And it grabbed him a cover quote from the creator of Succession. "This is the tale of his late youth and early adulthood in a very specific time and place, which is Liverpool in about 1989… there's a real sense of verity to it… this book is very much about him being a deeply artistic and sensitive person growing up in the epicentre of football fandom. He actually lived and grew up on Anfield Road, right next to the stadium. I'm not kidding. This is a beautiful piece of work, and we're very proud to be publishing it."
And we got Phoebe Hedges to talk up Dave Cook and Killtopia."I adore it, it is rapid pace and yet hits you really hard in the Final Act." I think Bleeding Cool may be doing a deep Killtopia dive soon.
We get more on the history of Jamie Hewlett and Matt Wakeham's Phoo Action, the collected Rebel Moon, Disenchantment, Tank Girl Trilogy, and Don Coppolla to be followed by Martin Scorcese.
Will O'Mullane got a plug for appearing at the show in Artists Alley with his comic Establishing Shot as well. And Titan's Phoebe Hedges and Lizzy Styles are self-publishing a comic called Total Recall Of The Heart. Even when the Titan Comics employees are not at work they are creating their own comic books!
