REVIEW: Annihilation Scourge Omega #1 — "one 'end of everything' crisis too many"

(Marvel Comics, creative team: Matthew Rosenberg, Manuel Garcia, Rafael Fonteriz, Cam Smith, Wayne Faucher, Manuel Garcia, Federico Blee, Rachelle Rosenberg, Erick Arcienega and Cory Petit)

Another galaxy spanning crossover ended … and has anything really changed? The Sentry continues his run as one of the worst possible ideas by getting a shabby sense of fashion. Annihilus has never recovered from that time he was Johnny Storm's roommate and remains as impotent and useless as ever. Even the really big surprises, like Sue Storm showing how powerful she is, got lost in the ridiculous finale that looked like a scene from Mathilda. Here's the thing: if a billion undead Avengers wanted to eat the entire Negative Zone, it wouldn't do much for anything you care about because there's no real way into any other universe for them. While the threat seems ho-hum, the pace of the plot likewise ponderously proceeds without the urgency expressed by the characters translating into something that pushes the reader to turn the page. Given that, alongside the 2099 thing and everything from the X-office, this is perhaps one "end of everything" crisis too many. RATING: MEH.
