The Slabbed Comic That Wasn't As Distressed As It Looked

Declaration of interest – comic book graders and slabbers CGC apparently sponsors Bleeding Cool – there's a logo up top and everything. They were however not, in any way, involved in the following article about their rival service CBCS. I'd have run it whether they were on not because I found it rather amusing.

This is a copy of the comic book The Electric Black #1 from Scout Comics, with a retailer variant cover from Jetpack Comics that's a homage to the EC Comics of old. And printed as if it had folds, scuffs and the like. As if it were a really old comic. You're probably ahead of me here and can see where this is going.

A Bleeding Cool reader sent a signed copy off to be slabbed by CBCS. And it came back, lickety-split. Maybe a little too lickety-split.

The signature was authenticated. But the 5.5 grade was as if the folds and scuffs printed on the cover of the comic… were actually folds and scuffs.

The comic was in near mint condition, plus the signature… I'm sure this will be put right once the matter is raised. But it did give me a bit of a giggle… here are the details of the comic in question.
