The Arcade Version of Punch Out is Coming to Nintendo Switch
Maybe it's just my age or knowledge, but I'm surprised when I hear people talk about the NES version of Punch Out as if it were the original. A lot of younger gamers don't know that the classic boxing game started out as an arcade title for Nintendo. It was a dual screen cabinet made in 1983 (first in Japan, then in the U.S. in 1984) where you played a green wire-framed version of Mac against a lot of the characters you may be familiar with over the years, and Mike Tyson wasn't involved in the original (much like he's not involved in any of the other titles after the NES version). Here's a photo for reference!
According to the Japanese website Impress Game Watch, the original arcade version is coming to the Nintendo Switch. The game will be released as Arcade Archives Punch-Out!! and will be released in Japan on March 30th. No details were given as to if and when it would be released outside of Japan, but we're guessing you'll see the game come to U.S. consoles sooner than you think. The arcade cabinet was a huge hit for Nintendo at a time when arcades were starting to hit a slump again after the first video game crash. There's no way Nintendo won't make it available here.
