Cards Of Pokémon TCG: Paldea Evolved Part 53: Maushold & Flamigo
Maushold & Flamigo feature traits from their Dex entries that are on display in their Illustration Rares from Pokémon TCG: Paldea Evolved.
With Sword & Shield officially concluded, the Scarlet & Violet era of the Pokémon TCG kicked off in March 2023 with a focus on the ninth generation of Pokémon games and the new region: Paldea. It all began with the Scarlet & Violet base set, which introduced major, lasting changes to the hobby. Now, the borders of the cards have become silver, matching the Japanese releases. Another major change is that now, each pack culminates in at least a holo-rare and two reverse holos. The major mechanic of this era is the lowercase ex, which features a double holographic pattern of a horizontal shine and a starry sparkle. Full Art exs now use a green, foil outline around the Pokémon. The Secret Rare section of expansions going forward features Full Arts, Illustration Rares and Special Illustration Rare exs, Full Art Trainers, Special Illustration Rare Trainers, and Gold Hyper Rares. On June 9, 2023, the Pokémon TCG released the second set of this era, Scarlet & Violet – Paldea Evolved, which focused on the Paldean Starters and the Treasures of Ruin Legendaries. In today's installment of this Scarlet & Violet – Paldea Evolved art spotlight, let's take a look at more Illustration Rares.
Maushold is the evolution of Tandemaus, showing a pair of Pokémon intrinsically linked, evolving either into a Family of Three or a Family of Four Maushold. In this card, artist Mizue delivers an Illustration Rare pictured to the left, which shows both forms of Maushold. Mizue has been contributing to the Pokémon TCG since the special Call of Legends set. Mizue's recent notable credits include Radiant Charjabug from Crown Zenith, Stoutland Character Rare from Sun & Moon – Cosmic Eclipse, and a slew of "Baby Shinies" from both Hidden Fates and Shining Fates.
Flamigo, pictured to the right, is a new Pokémon that will surely satisfy Kanto purists, as it is pretty much just a flamingo. It's a Flying/Fighting-type, which is hilarious if you've ever seen flamingos at a zoo whipping their heads at each other. Flamigo's Dex entries read:
This Pokémon apparently ties the base of its neck into a knot so that the energy stored in its belly does not escape from its beak.
Thanks to a behavior of theirs known as "synchronizing," an entire flock of these Pokémon can attack simultaneously in perfect harmony.
This "synchronizing" is depicted on the Flamigo Illustration Rare by artist Shibuzoh, who draws a vibrant scene of these Pokémon in action.
Stay tuned for the journey through this special set as we continue to spotlight the cards and artwork of Pokémon TCG: Scarlet & Violet – Paldea Evolved.
