Crystal Dynamics Might Be Teasing A New Legacy Of Kain

Within the last couple weeks, Crystal Dynamics started putting out some tweets featuring art related to its action adventure series Legacy of Kain. Based on the tweets alone, we could be seeing a new entry in the series, a reboot, or a remaster somewhere down the line.

While one tweet is related specifically to the #Inktober challenge, the rest heavily imply that Raziel will make his return in one form or another.

Going beyond these tweets though, there is some history of previous attempts at another Legacy of Kain game.

While 2003's Legacy of Kain: Defiance is the most recent game in the series, a sixth game, Legacy of Kain: The Dark Prophecy, was in development at Ritual Entertainment back in 2004 but was later canceled. Another attempt to continue was made with Legacy of Kain: Dead Sun, which was intended for the PlayStation 4, however that project was then canceled back in 2012.

In an interview with Finder in 2015, the lead designer at Crystal Dynamics, Michael Brinker, said that there was a "50/50 chance" of a new game in the series. "We have in-house developers who really want to make that game. It's interesting because people look back at our history and our franchises and see that we have some really great iconic IPs. So gamers wonder; 'where are they and what are they doing?' Well we're always tossing around and talking about ideas [of bringing them back]. It really is 50/50."

And then last year, alleged images and details from the canceled Dead Sun game emerged.

So, if we were betting men, we'd say this one falls in the realm of probable. After all, 2017 is well within the age of reboots, decade-delayed sequels, and remasters. So it wouldn't be the most far-fetched idea. Nor would it be the forst sequel to be teased on Twitter before an official announcement was made.

We've reached out to Crystal Dynamics for an official word and will update when we hear back.
