Destiny 2 Won't Include Grimoire Cards
The original Destiny was an interesting game, in so much as it was a bit of a frazzled mess, but one of the many things about the game that spiked a large amount of interest was the game's use of "grimoire cards." Those cards were part of a world-building technique Bungie were trying out to give Destiny players something to do outside the game. And like a lot of experiments, not every fan was pleased.
In fact, a decent number of players probably had no idea what the hell the grimoire cards were, since you couldn't access them in game. You could only check out your grimoire card collection through the Destiny companion app or through Bungie's website. Some were absolutely fans of the grimoire cards, though, and so this news about the sequel will likely ruffle some feathers. Bungie have decided to scrap the grimoire cards for Destiny 2 in an effort to keep the "lore in game."
"We want people to be able to find the lore," Bungie World Lead Steve Cotton said in an interview with Forbes. "All the story is told through the Adventures, it's told through the characters in the world, it's told through the campaign and it's told through scannables you find throughout the world."
So, we might be getting something similar to to the grimoire cards, but they'll be accessible through the game of Destiny 2 itself and not as an outside source of information.
Personally, I think Bungie are missing the best option for clearing up the divide over the grimoire cards. Clearly they should have just made them part of a Destiny tcg, or perhaps something more like a Destiny version of Hearthstone.
But, at least this proves Bungie is listening to fans?
