Double Fine and Bandai Namco Bring RAD to PAX East 2019
The other awesome game we got to check out from Bandai Namco at PAX East this year is a project being developed by Double Fine Games called RAD. This is an awesome action roguelike game set in the future after two post-apocalyptic disasters. Yes, that's right, we had one, and then after that, we immediately had a second trying to rebuild. So the world is basically toxic soup and rocks that you have to navigate across as a teenager with some extraordinary powers As you walk around you'll be taking out enemies, going on side quests, and leaving a trail of grass and flowers behind you in a world that sure could use a little more color beyond post-nuclear purple.
I really dig the mechanics as it's easy to grasp and get a handle on what's going on in this world. Your usual array of side-characters, shops, weird vegetation that can help you, and enemies that have their own distinct patterns of combat make the place lively as you do your own version of cleaning up the environment with your trusty bat and weird mutant powers. RAD is set to be released sometime this Summer. I'm guessing we'll get a date at E3. But this was a really good game to try out and I'm hoping there's a lot of crazy stuff we can do throughout the world they've created.
