Hearthstone and StarCraft II to Headline Esports Section of Asian Games

This week, we got word that both Hearthstone and StarCraft II would be the headlining esports titles for the upcoming Asian Games. The word came down from Blizzard, excited to let people know of the decision that two of their biggest esports titles would be featured. Here are a few details from the company.

Hearthstone and StarCraft II to Headline Esports Section of Asian Games

The second-largest multi-sport event on the planet will include pro Hearthstone and StarCraft II when the 2018 edition of the Asian Games kicks off in Indonesia later this summer. Hearthstone and StarCraft II being featured in the Asian Games marks the first time that esports competition has been recognized by a regional organizing body of the International Olympic Committee. So while the footballers, swimmers, and runners win medals at the Asian Games, eight of the continent's top Hearthstone and StarCraft II players will be seeking to earn their own medals. Recent qualifying events for hundreds of players throughout Asia—held by the Asian Electronic Sports Federation, the governing body of esports in Asia—determined the top eight players who will represent their countries at the Asian Games.

If you wish to see who qualified through the Asian Electronic Sports Federation, you can check out the Hearthstone results here, and the StarCraft II results here. The Asian Games will begin on August 18th in Indonesia, but venues, dates, and times for the esports sections have yet to be confirmed. The remaining esports titles to join them will be League Of Legends, Clash Royale, Arena of Valor, and Pro Evolution Soccer.
