The Hearthstone Finalists for the ESL Premiership have Been Announced
ESL UK has confirmed the ESL Premiership Hearthstone finals will take place on Saturday, January 6th and Sunday, January 7th 2018 at ESL Studio One in Leicester, England. The eight finalists qualified for the tournament are Deathsie, BoarControl, ColdHands, ToastMonster, Big Ben, Danswf, HelloLeeroy and Mysterious. Because apparently, if your name is not some sort of reference, pun, or otherwise non-traditional name, you just aren't that good at Hearthstone.
"It's exciting to be back for another ESL Finals," commented finalist Ben 'BigBen' Chapman. "The competition is tougher than ever this year with eight players in the final for the first time. I have a lot to prove from the last season, but I've had some big performances recently to steady my nerves on stage."
The ESL Premiership, powered by Alienware and Windows 10, is the UK's leading national league for eSports. ESL UK run three biannual tournaments under the Premiership banner: CS:GO; League of Legends and Hearthstone with Rainbow Six Siege to be added in 2018. Hearthstone is Blizzard's free-to-play online collectible card game which first launched in 2014. The game received the Knights of the Frozen Throne expansion back in August.
"The ESL Premiership is designed to promote the top UK esports talent and build a pathway to the professional scene," commented Rob Black, COO at ESL UK. "Following a competitive Autumn season, eight of the best Hearthstone players in the UK will descend on Leicester and have the opportunity to showcase their talent to a growing audience, which can only be a good thing for the esports ecosystem in general. I can't wait for what we expect to be a great finals."
