Hellboy Board Game Adds Expansion Before It's Been Released
The Hellboy board game by Dark Horse and Mantic Games has been so successful in its Kickstarter launch, the companies have decided to add an expansion before the Kickstarter is even complete. The decision to add the expansion, which sells as an add-on to pledges for £35, comes as the Kickstarter enters its final 48 hours, having raised more than $1.6 million form over 11,000 backers.
The expansion, Darkness Calls, is based on Hellboy Volume 8: Darkness Calls, and "tells the tale of Hellboy's fateful encounter with iconic characters such as Koshchei the Deathless and Henry Hood, the undead witchfinder," a press release revealed:
With this expansion, players will be able to recreate the storyline by playing as Hellboy, or they can create their own 'what if' scenario to see how other members of the BPRD team would have fared against Koshchei and hideous undead warriors. It comes with new highly detailed miniatures of Henry Hood, Koshchei, undead witches and a variety of 15 undead minions.
If you didn't read our previous report about the game, here's some more info from the press release:
Inspired by Mike Mignola's Hellboy comic book universe, the game is a co-operative experience in which players face off against some of the comic's most famous foes. Up to four people take control of iconic BRPD members, such as Hellboy, Abe Sapien, and Roger the Homunculus, before exploring gothic locations and uncovering ancient artifacts.
Featuring stunning, pre-assembled plastic miniatures, Mantic Games has worked closely with Dark Horse Comics and Mike Mignola to ensure the gaming pieces accurately capture the look and feel of the source material. What's more, top games designer James M. Hewitt – who has previously worked on Warhammer Quest: Silver Tower, Necromunda: Underhive and Blood Bowl 2016 – has been drafted in to create a compelling game experience.
Head to Kickstarter in the next 48 hours if you want to preorder a copy, but be prepared to open your wallet. The minimum pledge for the base game is £95, or about $127.
