Here's Some Sad News, Nintendo Won't Be Hosting A Major E3 Conference This Year
Nintendo has confirmed that they will, yet again, avoid hosting a major E3 conference. Last year, Nintendo rolled out a few small news items without any kind of major fanfare. They made the announcement this time through their financial results, saying "Again this year, we will not be hosting a large-scale press conference for institutional investors, analysts and the media." They didn't specify why they'll be ducking out on a press conference again, but did say that they'd be releasing information on their E3 plans soon.
Which makes you wonder, E3 is only just over a month away, and we still don't know what Nintendo are planning. Last year they rolled out the Nintendo Tree House, which was less a press conference and more a Nintendo-themed party. Which does make some sense with their branding, but, we could do with a bit more structure.
What we do know about Nintendo's E3 plans is pretty slim. We know Splatoon 2 and Super Mario Oddyssey will be at the show, and probably the new 2Ds XL, but that's about it. Maybe they'll also truck out some of the games they hinted at in their finance report. The report included a note for their upcoming financial year reading, "We will release Fire Emblem Echoes: Shadows of Valentia overseas in May (April in Japan) and plan to release Ever Oasisand Hey! Pikmin in June and July. Furthermore, this year is Kirby's 25th anniversary, so we are planning to release downloadable titles and a new multiplayer action game for Nintendo 3DS." Hopefully, we'll see some of those at E3 as well, since the Switch is, after all, killing it in the sales department.
