Knight Models Announces 2nd Edition of "Harry Potter" Miniatures Game
Well, that was fast. Generally, a game is out for more than a couple of years before a second edition, but Knight Models have announced a second edition of the Harry Potter Miniatures Adventure Game will be up for pre-order on July 16th.
That's not even a year since the Harry Potter miniatures game hit retailers.
The Harry Potter Miniatures Adventure Game is something of a hybrid, mixing the hobby aspects of miniature gaming with more traditional board gaming. You have terrain boards to play on, and plenty of tokens, but there are lots of cool resin miniatures that you can assemble and paint, if that's your bag. (that is very much my bag)
There will apparently be some changes, though, according to OnTableTop, with many of the components getting an update. The game-boards and tokens are being re-designed, with the inclusion of cardboard markers for the characters if you would prefer to play the game completely like a board-game and eschew miniatures altogether.
Building a Better Miniature
Speaking of miniatures, the Harry Potter figures that come with this "reprint" of the core game will be coming out in a new material, which is a relief for anyone who has ever put together a Knight Models miniature. Don't get me wrong— they make gorgeous models, but the resin tends to be a bit on the brittle side, which can be really frustrating when, say, you're trying to paint tiny little wizards. Wizards use wands.
Resin wands are brittle as hell.
The new miniatures will be getting cast in a new and improved resin, which will hopefully be more forgiving. Hopefully, Knight Models will be using this new resin material on their Batman minis as well, since they suffer from the same brittleness issues.
The new 2nd Edition of the Harry Potter Miniatures Adventure Game will be up for pre-order on July 16th. There is some debate as to whether this is really a 2nd Edition or just a level up on the original 1st edition, since this is coming out really close to that first release.
