Lamborghini's The Real Race Has Entered The Esports World

One of the world's most powerful automobiles, Lamborghini, has entered the world of esports — specifically sim racing. Partnering with Assetto Corsa Competizione by Kunos Simulazioni, the inaugural virtual one-make series The Real Race, starts on May 29. The tournament consists of five qualifying weekends, before the live finale hosted at the Lamborghini headquarters in Sant'Agata Bolognese, Italy. This new sim racing championship blends the real world of racing into the virtual world.

This latest entry into the racing esports world was developed by Assetto Corsa Competizione alongside automobile manufacturers to deliver a dynamic platform, ideal for Lamborghini. This game is also used by the Lamborghini Squadra Corse to prepare for their races. The luxury brand allows players to experience the race behind the wheel of the Lamborghini Huracán GT3 EVO — a three-time winner of the Daytona 24 Hours. The game also features 12 exclusive game liveries, developed by Lamborghini's Centro Stile — their in-house design team.

The top three players from the live finals will get to experience a three-day trip to Italy, where they will have a once in a lifetime opportunity to train alongside the Lamborghini Squadra Corse drivers. The winners will also get the chance to drive a real Lamborghini race car. The tournament is open to all experience levels, and players will get a chance to download the Assetto Corsa Competizione game this weekend.

The competition will take place from now until August 2, and the live finale will take place on September 18. Stefano Domenicali, Chairman and Chief Executive Officer of Automobili Lamborghini, is excited about this new venture into the esports world;

This encourages wider engagement with real-life racing, reflected by Lamborghini's investment in this new sports platform."

Seeing the realism of racing games and how drivers are using racing simulators to practice, or professional esports players going from simulation to the real thing, is just incredible," said David Coulthard MBE, former Formula One racing driver, who will be the studio-based commentator for the live event. "The Real Race is designed to portray realism and professionalism. Skills in sim racing are so transferable, which is why Lamborghini wants to give players an opportunity to test drive the real thing as part of the prize.
