Nintendo Wins Injunction Against An Accused Switch Modder

If there's one thing we've learned about Nintendo over the past decade, its that they frequently take people to court over their property. Torrent Freak got their hands on a new injunction, which took place just before Christmas, filed against a California man for pirating old SNES games through a mod for the Nintendo Switch. Nintendo specifically focused on several of their IP's, which included Super Mario Bros., Mario Kart, Pokemon, Donkey Kong, and The Legend of Zelda. The injunction prohibits the defendant from modifying, selling, renting, or distributing unauthorized copies of Nintendo's tech, software, and other trademarked materials.

The short version of this story is that Nintendo went after the man after he started selling a Switch mod created by Team-Xecuter that allowed you to load hacked games onto the console. He would sell the mod, and include a memory card that had over 800 classic game titles on it to load into the system. Apparently the software was a modded version of the NES Classic Edition. Which if you're a gamer, that's a pretty cool piece of tech. But if you're the owner of said hardware and software, that's a copyright violation of your IP. No court fees were ordered for either side to pay for the other. We'll see if this goes any further after the injunction.
