Opening A Dragon Ball Super: Miraculous Revival Booster Box
Dragon Ball Super Card Game prices are getting higher and higher, especially when it comes to older sets. In the process of searching for deals, though, I came across an older set with a relatively affordable booster box: the fifth main set, Miraculous Revival. Let's crack one open and see what we get.
The first thing I noticed was that, unlike Supreme Rivalry which offers a box topper of either an SR or SPR from the set, Miraculous Revival offered a sealed promo card that wasn't a part of the set otherwise. The promo featured Xeno Vegeta from Super Dragon Ball Heroes as the Black-Masked Saiyan. What I noticed immediately is the mixture of styles of holofoil. I've opened boxes of earlier sets including World Martial Arts Tournament and Colossal Warfare, and newer sets including Vicious Rejuvenation and Supreme Rivalry. The newer sets don't use the cracked ice holo style at all, while the older sets I've opened use them just for rare holos. This promo features an interesting and odd mixture of the cracked ice holofoil for the main part of the card and the golden foil generally used for Super Rares and Special Rares. This mix of styles actually continues into the set.
Regarding the style of the cards, the cracked ice style works very well for the rares. I like that more than the current style of holo rares by a huge stretch. However, the mixture of golden foil and the cracked pattern on Super Rares just doesn't work. Super Rares in general are of lower visual quality in this set than even other older sets like World Martial Arts Tournament.
It's clear that, overall, Dragon Ball Super Card Game has stepped up the look of Super Rares quite a bit in their recent sets, though. I did pull one Special Rare, though, which looks fantastic. The card showcases Super Saiyan 4 Goku in full color, with the background showcasing Goku in black and gold.
Later sets have better guaranteed pulls, but when looking at the pull rate of this era, this was a great box of Dragon Ball Super. For those looking to get into an earlier set of this card game without paying ridiculous amounts of money, I would strongly suggest checking out Miraculous Revival. While it isn't as strong of a set thematically as more recent offerings, it's still fun and hell to open and offers some fun cards.
