Overwatch League Officially Adds Atlanta and Guangzhou Teams
Blizzard has announced that Atlanta and Guangzhou will be joining the ranks next year for the Overwatch League Season 2.
The Overwatch League came to a close recently, with London Spitfire taking the crown as the first ever champions of the esports competition. All in all, it was a rousing success, with the league's absurd ambition more or less paying off every step of the way. It was something to behold and it is clear that at least for now, the future is bright for Overwatch esports. As we head into the post-season though, things will undoubtedly remain interesting with transfers, free agents and new teams all coming together to add a bit of drama in the downtime.
We now know two of the teams that will be joining the league next season. Blizzard has officially announced that Atlanta, USA and Guangzhou, China will both be getting rosters in Season 2. News of a new Atlanta team headed by Cox Entertainment broke a few days ago, but Blizzard has now gone and confirmed that report. Elsewhere, the Nenking Group has bought into the new Chinese team. Right now, the brandings of the team are under wraps, so we will have to wait a little while on the colours, logos and full names of the teams.
There are four more teams expected to join during the post-season, so these announcements are far from over. It's expected that McCourt Global is bringing a team to Paris next year, as per an ESPN report, but as for the other teams, we don't quite know those just yet. The movements of players by these teams is going to be fascinating to watch, as they will have to build teams from the Contenders divisions and players team release, putting them at somewhat of a disadvantage. Still, it's an exciting time right now. I can't wait to see it all come together.
