The Day Before Will Be Taken Offline In Late January

The Day Before is getting taken off Steam next month with refunds being issued, as someone is trying to make an offline version.

Article Summary

  • The Day Before will be removed from Steam in January with refunds.
  • Fantastic Studios ends operations, leading to game's shutdown.
  • Refunds are being issued by Steam for all game purchasers.
  • An offline version of The Day Before is in development by fans.

After the debacle that was the end of Fantastic Studios, it was revealed that their game, The Day Before, will be taken down from Steam in January. Earlier this month, the company announced that after publishing the game, they would be shutting down the studio. This led to a number of people rushing to support the game's release, only to discover the game was actually kind of bad. It has been mocked relentlessly over the past couple of weeks, which has now led to the company posting an announcement on Twitter/X, letting players know that the game will be taken off the servers and that Steam will proactively be issuing refunds for the game.

"We regret to inform you that the development company Fntastic has officially ceased operations, and as a result The Day Before will be retired and the servers will be turned off on 22 January 2024. As previously communicated, Mytona, as the investor, has been working in collaboration with Steam to facilitate refunds for all game purchasers. For any players that have not already had their purchase refunded, Steam will now proactively refund all remaining players. We extend our gratitude for the community's support throughout the project's life. Unfortunately, without a development team, we had no alternative choice but to officially close the project. We sincerely thank all our supporters throughout this journey and wish you all a happy holiday season."

However, this isn't quite the end of the story, as someone is currently working on an offline version of the game to keep it alive. As reported by Game Rant, work is being done by independent developers to take the game and make it playable offline, and, hopefully, in the process, make the game better than the current version players have.  We'll see what comes of it as we're sure the original team that worked on it might have some issues with it. Or for all we know they don't care anymore and are happy to see it salvaged by someone.
