A Fan Made Star Wars: Battlefront 3 Might Be Making Its Way To Steam

We live in a world where game design is getting ever accessible, which is great. We've seen the indie scene grow so very fast and powerful, and it is great to watch happen. However, as developers who are fans of properties decide to mess around with licences, we are seeing the rules of copyright bend and become grey.

And this story is very interesting. It's fair to say some fans of the original Star Wars: Battlefront didn't dig everything DICE did with the game, so a couple of fans have been putting together a new Battlefront alternative called Galaxy in Turmoil. Usually this would get squashed, but the developer is now claiming to have signed a deal with Valve to bring the game to Steam, which they hope will give them backing on the game.

In a post by Frontwire Studios, the dev said:

On a final note; People have been expressed their concern as of late, saying they expect us to get a Cease & Desist from Disney. I'll be honest – I've had mild concerns myself from time to time. However Valve clearly lacks that same concern. By agreeing to publish Galaxy in Turmoil, Valve is assisting us in growing and ensuring the longevity of the Galaxy in Turmoil project and community as a whole.

The game will be free when it launches.

This is…interesting. Part of me thinks this is naive, and I don't see how this game ever makes it to the platform. This is going to hurt someone I'm sure, it's just not clear who yet.
