Hideo Kojima May Well Be Starting His Own Studio And Working With PlayStation [Updated]
This Hideo Kojima and Konami feud can somewhat end now. Kojima's non-compete clause is said to be up today, and it looks like a lot of speculation can be put to rest. The question was where would Kojima end up after leaving his previous employer, essentially making himself a free agent.
Well, a report by Japanese newpaper Nikkei (via VG247) is stating that the legendary games creator is starting his own studio and will be bringing many staff from Kojima Productions with him. On top of that, the report states that he is 'negotiating' with PlayStation, but that's not expanded upon. Whether that would be in first party capacity or not is unclear, but it would certainly be a big coup for the platform if it were so.
This could all be nonsense too, but Nikkei have been pretty close to this entire situation throughout, so I'm betting their sources are good. Hopefully we will hear an announcement about this soon.
Update: And here is the confirmation. Kojima Productions has been re-established as an independant studio, whose first game is being developed with Sony. As per future titles, we don't know yet.
Off to the races we go…
