Market Report Predicts That Playstation VR Will Be $400-$600
The dust is now settling on the Oculus Rift price announcement, and everyone and their mum now have hot takes on what it means for VR as a whole. One of the key bits of information we don't have yet though is what the Oculus's competitors will be priced at, which is important.
A full report from market researchers SuperData Research (via GameSpot) which you can download, suggests that the console headset, PlayStation VR, will not be too far off the Oculus's VR headset price. It estimates the Sony headset will come in at $400-$600.
Honestly, that seems extremely high to me. I'd worry a lot if the headset came in much more than $400. The PlayStation VR strikes me as the main headset that needs to impress and sell early, while the Oculus can be a slower burn. We will have to see, but I can't imagine a price announcement is far off.
